What are Bach Flower Remedies?

Dr. Edward Bach developed the flower remedy system in the 1920s and 1930s in England. Dr. Bach was a well-known bacteriologist, physician, and pathologist at the time, but he grew frustrated with the medical system’s lack of focus on the mental and emotional aspects of healing. While he treated the physical wounds of World War I soldiers, the medical system at the time was not equipped to deal with shell shock, or what we now refer to as Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He noticed that the mental state of his patients had an effect on the rate and success of their physical healing. Eventually he left his successful Harley Street practice and began to experiment with using flower essences to treat mental and emotional problems. He developed what is now known as the Bach Flower Remedy system, a collection of 38 different flower essences that are used to bring the mind and emotions back into balance. To learn more about Dr. Bach or his system please refer to the Bach Centre, which still operates out of his original home and garden.
